It is with great pleasure that on behalf of Mamvura Conferencing & Training, we invite your team to attend our Annual Symposium for African Women in Environment and Natural Sciences organized for the 27th to the 29th of July 2016. Environmental Sciences is an inclusive profession which should value, support and celebrate the contributions of women to the Natural Sciences and Environment team. Although the aggregate percentage is minimal, more girls at universities are opting for the environmental sciences profession. However, the last few years there has been a rapid acceptance of gender issues in natural sciences field, the situation of the African women scientists is still in many respects worse than that of their male colleagues (number, salary differences, risk of unemployment and career prospects).

The idea of gender in natural sciences has been widely discussed outside the areas where it should be applied: Women Natural Scientists as Managers and Entrepreneurs! Too often have we focused on attracting and retaining the woman scientists? It is now time to support and celebrate the woman scientist’ managerial and entrepreneurial skills! Through this 3 day calibration, Mamvura Conferencing & Training, together with its participating partners, will have the objective of sensitizing and creating awareness in government, industries and the larger society about the vital role of the woman natural scientist. Together we will highlight and support women’s participation in the environmental sciences profession by hosting this forum for information and ideas exchange, as well as determine current and future needs with the aim of building opportunities for women already in the profession and encouraging women to consider environmental sciences as a career. It is also our wish to provide excellent network opportunities with colleagues in business, academia and government to discuss industry commitment to diversity and equality in the workplace, and showcase female leaders in natural sciences. This high profile meeting of minds will encourage delegates to reflect and consider their circumstances and what they hope to achieve by revisiting their goals and aspirations.

We are proud to be hosting this Symposium and look forward to warmly welcoming all delegates to Johannesburg, South Africa in 2016.
